Why you’re here
- Just bought a home with a pool & no idea where to start

- You add chemicals but nothing changes, or it gets worse
- The pool was crystal clear yesterday, green this morning
- Spending $100+ monthly at the pool store with no results
- Overwhelmed by contradictory YouTube videos, forums, and pool store advice
- Worried about repeating the 2021 freeze disaster
Our Pool School gives you structured, credentialed training instead of scattered advice from random sources.
Pool maintenance class – what you’ll learn
You’ll walk away knowing exactly what to do every week, how to fix the most common problems, and when something needs a professional. Here’s what we’ll cover during your hands-on session at your pool:
How to keep your water crystal clear
Water chemistry terrifies most pool owners because they’re afraid of harming their family with incorrect chemical balance or wasting hundreds on chemicals that don’t work. We’ll demystify it in plain language.
- Testing your water the right way: Which 5 tests actually matter (not the overwhelming 15 on the bottle), how often to test based on the season, and what the numbers really mean for YOUR pool size
- Adding chemicals correctly for DFW water: How much chlorine for YOUR pool size (not guessing), when to shock and when not to, why pH keeps going up in Texas, and how to calculate doses without wasting money or damaging your expensive pool surfaces
- Preventing green water: What causes algae in DFW’s 95ยฐF+ pool water, how to stop it before it starts, and what to do if your pool turns green (step-by-step recovery so you never deal with that nightmare again)
- Understanding cloudy water: The 3 most common causes in North Texas, which one you’re dealing with, and how to fix it in 24-48 hours instead of days of trial and error
- Managing our hard water: How to handle 146.5 ppm hardness that damages equipment, when to adjust calcium levels, and how to prevent the white scale buildup you see on your equipment
How to use your equipment
Your biggest fear is damaging equipment worth thousands of dollars. We’ll show you exactly what’s safe to DIY, what’s normal versus emergency, and when to call professionals.
- Your filter system: How to clean it properly (cartridge, sand, or DE) without voiding warranties, when to backwash, how often to deep clean, and what “high pressure” really means versus panic-inducing myths
- Your pump and timer: How long to run it in summer versus winter (saves electricity without sacrificing water quality), what those weird sounds mean, when to call for repairs versus when it’s just normal operation you’ve been worrying about unnecessarily
- Your automation system: Programming your Jandy, Pentair, or Hayward system with hands-on practice at YOUR pool, setting freeze protection correctly so you never panic during freeze warnings again, and using those confusing buttons with confidence
- Your heater (if you have one): Protecting it from DFW’s hard water that causes expensive scale damage, recognizing buildup early before it becomes a $2,000+ repair bill, and simple maintenance that extends its lifespan
- Your salt cell (if you have one): Cleaning it without damaging the delicate plates, knowing when to replace it instead of wasting money on repairs, and managing salt levels in our hard water that complicates salt systems
How to handle pool problems
- “My pool turned green overnight”: Why it happened, how to fix it fast, and how to prevent it from happening again
- “My equipment is making a weird noise”: Which noises are normal, which ones need immediate attention, and what to tell a repair company
- “I’m going on vacation”: How to prepare your pool for 1-2 weeks away, what can go wrong, and how to catch up when you return
- “It’s about to freeze tonight”: Exactly what to do (we’ll practice this), when to run equipment 24/7, and how to avoid the damage from 2021’s freeze
- “My pool is losing water”: Normal evaporation versus actual leaks (900+ gallons/week is normal in summer), and when to call for leak detection
- “My chemicals won’t balance”: Why certain numbers won’t budge, the order to adjust things, and when water chemistry is fighting you
How to handle North Texas’s extreme seasons
- Summer heat: How to keep your pool from turning into algae soup when it’s 100ยฐF+ for weeks, managing chlorine that burns off in hours, and dealing with 900+ gallons of weekly evaporation
- Winter freeze: What to do when a freeze warning hits (we’ll practice the steps), when to run your equipment 24/7, and how to avoid the $2,000-5,000 damage thousands of homeowners faced in February 2021
- Spring: How to handle tree pollen that turn pools green, managing debris loads that overwhelm your filter, and preparing for 40ยฐF temperature swings in a single week
- Fall maintenance: When to reduce chemicals and runtime, how to prepare for heating season, and what equipment checks to do before winter
How to save money without sacrificing quality
- Where to buy chemicals: Which local Frisco/Allen suppliers have the best prices, what to buy in bulk, what to avoid at big box stores that charge 2-3x more
- What you actually need: The 5-6 chemicals you’ll use regularly versus the 20+ they try to sell you (stop wasting money on things sitting unused in your garage)
- When to DIY versus call a pro: What’s safe to handle yourself, what needs licensed technicians, and how to evaluate service quotes so you don’t get taken advantage of
- How to extend equipment life: Simple maintenance that prevents $500-5,000 repairs, what to check monthly, and what to ignore despite what forums tell you
By the end of your session, you’ll know your weekly routine (takes 30-60 minutes), your monthly tasks, your seasonal prep, and exactly when to call for help. No more googling “why is my pool cloudy” at 10 PM and getting 47 conflicting answers.
Schedule your sessionPool School training details and cost
Our Pool School sessions run 1-2 hours at your home with your pool and your equipment. The investment is $150 plus tax, which is less than one month of a typical pool service but provides knowledge that saves $1,800-3,600 annually. Sessions include follow-up email and phone support for quick questions after your training. You can also book additional sessions for advanced topics or seasonal refreshers.
Note: there is no way we can distill a decade’s worth of knowledge into 1 session, but it’s enough to get you started and cover the basics.
Instructor credentials
Your instructor holds CPO certification (Certified Pool Operator from the Pool & Hot Tub Alliance), IPSSA Water Chemistry Certification, CSP/PHTA Service Professional credentials, and state RAIL licensing for electrical safety training. We’ve served North Texas pools since 2013 with over 10 years of hands-on experience maintaining pools in this specific climate and water conditions.

Is Pool School right for you? (honest assessment)
You’re an ideal candidate if you’re a new pool owner feeling overwhelmed by contradictory advice, a DIY enthusiast wanting control and cost savings ($150-300/month adds up), or someone frustrated with unreliable pool services who’d rather invest in knowledge than endless service calls. Budget-conscious homeowners who can dedicate 30-60 minutes weekly to pool care will benefit most from this training.
This might not be for you if you travel frequently (gone more than 2 weeks at a time makes DIY difficult), have mobility issues preventing physical maintenance, genuinely prefer having someone else handle everything (no shame in that), own a complex commercial-style system, or need extensive equipment repairs first before training makes sense.
We’re honest about this because we’d rather you succeed at DIY or hire good service than feel like you failed. Some people are better served by professional service, and that’s okay. But if you’re capable and willing, training pays for itself in 3-4 weeks of avoided service costs.
Common questions from Collin County pool owners
I’ve watched YouTube videos. Why do I need in-person training?
I’ve watched YouTube videos. Why do I need in-person training?
Generic videos don’t account for Frisco’s 146.5 ppm water hardness, our clay soil issues, or extreme temperature swings from 100ยฐF+ summers to occasional 20ยฐF winters. We train on your pool with your equipment, addressing your specific challenges. Plus, you can ask questions and get hands-on practice with immediate feedback, which is impossible with videos where you’re just watching someone else’s pool.
How is this different from the free 10-minute orientation pool builders provide?
How is this different from the free 10-minute orientation pool builders provide?
Pool builders show you basic operations to avoid warranty claims and get you off their schedule. We provide comprehensive training on water chemistry, troubleshooting, seasonal management, and North Texas-specific challenges they don’t cover. Our instructors are CPO-certified with 10+ years maintaining local pools, not sales staff who just installed your pool and moved on to the next customer.
Can I really maintain my pool myself with just 2 hours of training?
Can I really maintain my pool myself with just 2 hours of training?
Yes! We focus on the 20% of knowledge that handles 80% of situations. You’ll leave knowing exactly what to do weekly, what to watch for, and when to call for help. We’re not training you to rebuild equipment or repair complex systems; we’re teaching you to maintain healthy, clear water and recognize problems early before they become expensive emergencies.
What if I have questions after my Pool School?
What if I have questions after my Pool School?
Quick questions via email or phone are welcome! For complex issues or hands-on help, you can book follow-up sessions at any time. Many customers book a spring refresher after their first winter to review freeze protection removal, or a summer session to optimize their chlorination strategy during extreme heat.
Do you provide written materials or videos?
Do you provide written materials or videos?
We focus on hands-on learning at your pool because that’s what sticks. You’ll practice testing water, adjusting chemicals, cleaning filters, and operating equipment during the session. Most customers take notes or photos during training. Generic guides don’t help when every pool is different; what matters is understanding your specific equipment and conditions.
Is this worth it if I might hire a service later?
Is this worth it if I might hire a service later?
Absolutely! Understanding your pool helps you evaluate service quality, catch problems early, and handle emergencies when your service company can’t respond immediately. Many customers use our training to maintain their pools most of the year, only hiring service during extended vacations or when life gets too busy for weekly maintenance.
Why learn from Executive Blue Pools
Credentials that set us apart
Unlike “chuck in a truck” operations or franchise employees reading from scripts, our Pool School instructors bring industry-leading certifications that most residential services skip. We hold CPO certification (Certified Pool Operator), the gold standard that many budget services avoid because of the cost and continuing education requirements. Our IPSSA Water Chemistry Certification demonstrates advanced chemistry expertise beyond basic knowledge, and our CSP/PHTA Service Professional credentials show ongoing education investment that most companies won’t make.
We’re RAIL licensed, which means we can legally teach you about electrical components (many companies can’t because they don’t hold proper licensing). We’ve served Frisco and Collin County since 2013, maintained 1,000+ pools through every weather extreme, and understand your water source (North Texas Municipal Water District), your equipment (what’s commonly installed in this area), and your challenges (heat, hard water, clay soil).
The Executive Blue difference
We teach, not sell. There’s no pressure to sign up for service, no upselling unnecessary chemicals, no scare tactics about DIY dangers, and no hidden agendas. We transfer honest, practical knowledge because we genuinely enjoy teaching homeowners to succeed with their pools.
You’ll receive real support with real results. Email and phone support continues after your session, multiple session options exist for advanced topics, we’ll connect you with reliable suppliers and resources, and we celebrate your success maintaining your own pool. Our goal is your independence, not your dependence on our services.
